What stays on your device

The answers you give the tools and the check are saved only in your browser's local storage so the tools can share them. They are not sent to us or anyone else. Clear them any time with “Clear my answers” or by clearing this site's data in your browser.

When you ask to be matched

Nothing you type is sent anywhere until you submit the “See who can help” screen. Submitting it takes two separate permissions, and we ask for each one on its own:

• Sharing with our partner network. One checkbox lets SolarRealCostshare the details you entered (your name, phone number, email address, ZIP code and your answers on that screen) with the companies in our partner network that serve your area, so they can respond to your request. It also lets us email you about that request. Partner companies pay us for these introductions, which can make the sharing a “sale” of personal information under some state laws.
• Contact by a provider. Each provider has its own checkbox, naming that company. Only a provider you tick may call or text you, and only in the way its checkbox said. Tick none and no provider contacts you.

Neither permission is a condition of buying anything. You can submit nothing at all and still use every tool and guide on this site.

What we keep as a record

For each permission we store the exact words shown next to the checkbox, a SHA-256 fingerprint of those words, the time you ticked it, the page it was on, and your IP address and browser type. We keep this so we can show, if ever asked, exactly what you agreed to. If you ask us to delete your details, we replace your name and contact details with “REDACTED” and keep only that record of consent.

Withdrawing consent and opting out

You can withdraw either permission at any time. Use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page, use the unsubscribe link in any email from us, or contact us below. To stop a provider calling or texting, reply STOP to its texts or tell it directly; our agreement with every provider requires it to honour an opt-out immediately. Opting out with us stops your details going to any provider from then on. A provider that already received them keeps its own copy under its own privacy policy.

Analytics

We count page views and tool use without names, emails or phone numbers.
